> World Creativity and Innovation Day

21st of April 2023

Today is World Creativity and Innovation Day (#WCID), a global UN holiday observed on April 21, aims to increase public awareness of the value of creativity and innovation in problem-solving in order to advance the UN’s sustainable development goals, often known as the “global goals.” With the support of 80 countries, the UN adopted resolution 71/284 to establish the day. On April 21, 2018, the first International Creativity and Innovation Day was observed.

We celebrate creativity and innovation today for its role in advancing human growth. Creativity and innovation are essential to improving our world, from artistic expression to problem-solving in the context of economic, social, and sustainable development. As we commemorate this day, it’s important to remember how important education is to cultivating innovation and creativity in society. As education equips people with the knowledge and abilities needed to think critically, solve challenging problems, and come up with novel ideas. We can foster a culture that appreciates and emphasises creativity and innovation in education, which will lead to more innovation across the board in society.

Innovation and creativity particularly during the pandemic had a huge impact on plans for economic growth, culture and creativity, as well as brining a new energy to the creative sector. Innovation and ingenuity were crucial for sustaining the economy and businesses throughout the epidemic.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to succeed in a world where people were more socially isolated, a number of businesses have had to modify their business models and develop cutting-edge solutions to stay in business. These innovative approaches have allowed businesses to adapt and thrive during the pandemic. Furthermore, creativity and uniqueness were essential for maintaining a sense of community whilst we were physically socially isolated. The creative industry has been able to come up with new ways to amuse and inspire us thanks to digital experiences like online exhibitions, virtual performances, and other digital endeavours.

On this International Creativity and Innovation Day, let us emphasise the importance of education in fostering creativity and innovation as well as the profound effects these two traits have on our society and economy.
