The Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) said, “When a man dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah, knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (the deceased).” – Sahih Muslim.
As mentioned in the Holy Quran, “We have been directed by the Almighty to make a bequest.” (5:106). “It is incumbent upon us as Muslims to make a Will.” (2:180).
Our wealth is to be distributed to cover any debts (including any outstanding Zakah or mahr), donating up to ⅓ of the estate to charity, then ensuring that those who are dependent – our heirs, parents and relatives – receive the remainder in accordance with the sharia.
