> School in a Bus
At READ Foundation we believe that education is a fundamental right for everybody. It is not only the most powerful tool to navigate through the course of life, but also the most powerful weapon in combating the cycle of poverty.
For children who have fled war-torn Syria, attending school is but a memory. One that they look upon often and fondly. In Lebanon alone there are nearly 1 million refugee children suffering as a result of conflict. This is something we cannot stand by and let happen. These children deserve to feel safe, to feel happy, a sense of normality.
We are working with our trusted partners on the ground in Lebanon, saving the lives and minds of little ones through our School in a Bus project. But what is School in a Bus? Well, that's literally what it is, a school inside a bus. A bus is fitted with the facilities and equipment to teach children. The school in Lebanon caters for 300 children and provides them with the tools they need to learn and develop. They are given books, learning materials and a mobile classroom with screens and interactive whiteboards. They are also provided with food, face masks and their temperature is checked daily due to the COVID19 pandemic.
Importantly, in addition to giving these vulnerable children a space to learn and play, they are given psychosocial support to help them deal with the trauma of conflict.

More than 20 million children are out of school in conflict zones -UNICEF.
Schools are sanctuaries, a safe haven for children that guides them through infancy to adulthood. Not only are they a stepping stone towards a brighter future, but they also provide essential services such as food, shelter and clean water.
Schools are a second home for children, which is why when it’s destroyed in conflict the long-term effects of such educational disruption are devastating to them and to whole communities.
Conflicts and crises continue to take a heavy toll on children and youth. Can you even imagine what they are going through? They are vulnerable, in danger of exploitation, child marriage and child labour. We need to help keep them safe, and at the same time proving them with literacy and life skills for a better future.Donate Now
