> How does education affect poverty? It can help END it.
Most experts agree that education is the most effective way to take millions of people out of poverty. High quality education results in decent economic growth, creating a knock-on effect for making READ Foundation’s goal of alleviating poverty much more achievable. This is, in part, because it also identifies and addresses many of the other issues that keep communities vulnerable.
The crises in Yemen and Syria have had devastating impacts on education, thousands of schools have been destroyed and millions of children are out of school. We cannot bear to stand back and allow such wasted potential. We have a creative solution to such challenging conditions, the School in a Bus project! Inside this incredible bus, we unlock the true potential of children, instil a love for learning and build a solid foundation for them to build upon for the rest of their lives. We inspire them to dream BIG! Most importantly, we provide psychosocial support to help them deal with trauma and conflict they may have experienced.
READ Foundation is working with trusted partners in Lebanon to help Syrian refugees get an education in the School in a Bus. Each bus provides up to 300 children with an education, and includes facilities such as interactive whiteboards, books and stationery. The children are also provided with a healthy balanced meal. Safety precautions are taken to keep everyone safe during the pandemic.

More than 20 million children are out of school in conflict zones -UNICEF.
Schools are sanctuaries, safe-havens for children that guide them from infancy to adulthood. Schools provide the gateway for a brighter future, and also, essential services such as food, shelter and clean water.
When schools are destroyed, the consequences are devastating, puts children in danger of exploitation, child marriage and child labour.
We prioritise schools and their education to keep them safe, and protect their physical, psychological and emotional well-being.
