Asalaamu Alaikum,

READ Foundation was born out of the belief that education works. It is the driving force that pulls communities out of poverty and gives them a new foundation for success. We take this ethos and apply it to all our work, whether that’s providing education for refugee children in the camps in Lebanon, or the street children in Bangladesh, or even the vulnerable children in Yemen. We make sure that alongside our intervention; where we provide necessities such as food, clean water and shelter, that we have a component of education; providing books and tools to learn with, as well as psychological support for children who have suffered trauma.

As one of the first responders to the flood crisis in Pakistan, we were able to immediately deliver life-saving essentials, and now we’ve moved to established the very first child friendly spaces for learning and support in Sindh. These caters for up to 200 children each, giving them a safe environment to learn and play. After suffering from the trauma of upheaval due to the severe flooding, these centres are vital.

Phase two will be to rehabilitate and rebuild schools that have been severely damaged, making them fit for purpose, with added flood prevention capabilities.
