Empowering Yemen’s Children

Yemen faces one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises. Conflict, climate change, and economic collapse have disrupted education for millions. Yet children across Yemen remain determined to learn, despite educational barriers such as hunger and poverty.

READ Foundation operates in 16 schools, reaching over 10,000 students with safe learning environments, daily nutrition, and climate-resilient infrastructure. Together, we ensure education continues, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Education doesn't, wait for peace
Neither can children’s future.

Children in Yemen can’t pause their development while the world waits for stability. Every day without education is a lost opportunity. With your support, we’re rebuilding schools damaged by conflict and climate disasters, feeding students who arrive hungry, and training teachers in trauma-informed approaches. Your support ensures classrooms stay open and children have all they need to thrive.

How You Can Help

Areas Of Work

We help children in Yemen continue learning by repairing schools, providing meals, training teachers, and working with communities to make a long-lasting impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

We work across 16 schools through five key activities: rehabilitating school infrastructure and WASH facilities, running breakfast clubs, providing professional development for teachers, delivering remedial classes, and establishing Father and Mother Councils for community-based accountability. All programmes follow government-accredited curricula, enabling students to transition to formal education.

We build lasting systems. School rehabilitation includes solar power, gender-sensitive WASH facilities, and community councils for accountability. We train teachers in trauma-informed methods and provide daily meals so hunger doesn’t keep children away from school. Everything connects: infrastructure, teacher support, nutrition, and community engagement. That’s how communities maintain education through crisis and build long-term strength.

It goes to providing daily breakfast to students who arrive at school hungry, repairing damaged schools, upgrading WASH facilities, training teachers and educating communities to protect them from climate crises. All programmes follow government curricula, so students transition to formal education. We track impact – attendance, grades, and enrolment.

Yemen’s security situation makes visits inadvisable. We prioritise safety for staff, students, and supporters. However, we share regular updates through reports, photos, videos, and impact data. Local teams document student progress, school conditions, and outcomes. You receive transparent communication: attendance improvements, graduation rates, case studies, community testimonials, showing real impact through verified reporting.

We reach over 10,000 students across 16 schools in conflict-affected areas. 2,750 receive daily breakfast for one year, protecting them from malnutrition. 720 teachers work in enhanced environments with training and support. Our Yemen Programmes reach families displaced by conflict, children who’ve missed years of schooling, and communities where infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed by conflict.

Omar’s Story

The escalating crisis in Lebanon has pushed more than a million people out of their homes to find shelter in the North and elsewhere. Forced to live in overcrowded and worn-down shelters, they have little to no winter supplies to keep themselves warm as the colder months approach. READ Foundation already has a well-established network in Lebanon and is ready to help vulnerable families in need. We have already been delivering psychosocial support and educational access to innocent children through our School in a Bus network. We’ve also been delivering essential relief, including food, winter supplies, shelter, and hygiene kits through our Buses.
