My school with me

Just under a decade of war in Syria has seen a detrimental effect on the education of a once flourishing country. For many children, the normality of going to school, learning and playing with friends is unknown. However, the spirit of a child remains, amongst the rumble. Their smiles and laughter show true resilience against the back drop of their environment.

With the frequent relocation of displaced people within Syria, the effects of war have resulted in 2.1 million children out-of-school and 1 in 4 schools being damaged, destroyed or used as shelter or for military purposes.

READ Foundation recognises the importance of honouring a child’s right to education and have adapted a programme where Syrian children are not left behind. The goal is to provide children with temporary learning classrooms. The aim of mobile learning is to adapt to the environment of Syrian children, where there is frequent movement and rapid change.

Providing a strong foundation through education.

The education provided will include:

  • Holistic approaches to learning
  • Adaptation for special educational needs
  • Educating 594 children between the ages of 6 and 10 years old
  • Three classrooms
  • Access to two latrines for males and females.
Not only does the project provide a safe and adaptable approach to Internally Displaced Persons in Syria, but parent teacher support groups are also formed, through advocacy within local communities. The My School with Me in Syria project gives children a chance for normality in a world of uncertainty.
