INEQUALITY IN EDUCATION
No one gets a second chance at childhood. Far too many children from disadvantaged backgrounds are being let down by society. They are innocent victims of their circumstances, and we are failing them. It is not their fault, and it is simply unfair.
Our work takes us where the challenge is the greatest. READ Foundation was originally established in Kashmir and Pakistan and now operates in Bangladesh, Lebanon, Yemen and Turkey, serving those children who need it most. Our focus is to make education work for them, as we believe it is the most powerful tool in alleviating poverty and making a difference in their lives.
Here are a few things we do:
Building successful schools
We build and open schools to provide high-quality education to the world’s most vulnerable children. Because of this, our pupils become the region’s highest-achieving students. We set up mobile classrooms in refugee camps and conflict zones and provide one-to-one sponsorships for orphans. We strive above and beyond to ensure every child has the equal opportunity they deserve.
Great teachers
We have dedicated, inspiring teachers and leaders helping to end wasted potential. They encourage children to dream big and help them build a brighter future.
Empowerment:
Female leadership
We actively encourage and support female teachers in our schools. Some of our former students have trained and become heads of departments and headmistresses. Promoting women as positive and respected members of society for both young boys and girls is important.
Innovation
We are a forward-thinking organisation constantly looking for new ideas to change the world. Where there is a problem, there is always a solution; for example, in the refugee camps in Beqaa, Lebanon, the children have been devoid of education because of the logistical nightmare and restrictions they face. So we work to provide the children living in the camps with an education through our School in a Bus. If they can’t go to school, the school will go to them. And it works!
