In Tanzania, many children face overwhelming barriers to education. Poverty, overcrowded classrooms, and harmful practices prevent thousands from staying in school. Girls are particularly disadvantaged, only 73% complete primary school and fewer than 34% transition to secondary education. Without intervention, many face early marriage, limited opportunities, and a cycle of poverty that continues into the next generation.
These challenges mean that education in Tanzania is not just about learning to read and write, but about giving children the protection and confidence to shape their futures.
Pass It On
Through Pass it On we are helping children overcome these barriers and thrive at school. Vulnerable students are provided with uniforms, stationery, and school kits so they can attend class with dignity and without stigma.
We support Girls’ Clubs that create safe spaces for girls to learn about health, rights, and wellbeing. These clubs empower girls to resist early marriage and pregnancy, giving them a better chance to continue their education. At the same time, classrooms are being transformed through play-based learning. Teachers are trained in new, child-centred methods and equipped with sports equipment and resources that help children build resilience, confidence, and teamwork skills.
By strengthening teachers’ skills and involving parents and communities, the project promotes inclusive, gender-sensitive education that creates lasting change.
