Al Salaam Centre
Hassan is 6 years old and lives in the Idlib countryside. Growing up without a father and experiencing displacement with his large family deeply affected his development. When his mother became ill, Hassan grew stressed and withdrawn, avoiding other boys his age and dropping out of school multiple times.
Since attending READ Foundation’s Al Salaam learning space, Hassan’s hope and determination was sparked once again. With a combination of education and psychosocial support, he was given the tools to work towards his future.
Now, he attends class regularly and receives specialist attention for his severe vision impairment, which had created additional challenges to his learning in previous years.
His grandmother sees the transformation. She now sees genuine joy and excitement in his eyes whenever he talks about the Al Salaam Centre. The project brought a real change in his character; the withdrawn boy became hopeful again.
Hassan now dreams of becoming someone who can help children like him when he grows up. He wants to put smiles on the faces of children who have suffered the way he did.
