School in a Bus
Aya is 12 years old and dreams of becoming a scientist. Her family fled Syria when war broke out and now lives in a camp in Mount Lebanon. Her father works to support Aya and her four sisters, but he cannot afford the transportation costs to send them to school.
Without school, Aya felt lost. The days in the camp lacked the structure and purpose that learning had given her. And she felt that loss deeply.
When the School in a Bus rolled into their camp, Aya joined the bus immediately. She had studied in French before, but the project offered English lessons. Learning a new language expanded her communication abilities and gave her access to scientific literature she hadn’t been able to read before.
Through the project’s structured lessons and specialised teachers, Aya regained the knowledge she’d missed.
Her father is now saving for transportation so Aya can return to formal school next year.
With support from donors, students like Aya can continue their education and work toward the futures they want to build.
