Strengthening Access to Education and Wellbeing
Lamis is a 45-year-old widow raising ten children alone in Taiz. Providing food for her family was a constant struggle. Her daughters, Amal, 17, and Isra, 7, often missed school or couldn’t concentrate in class because of hunger.
“As a result of our family’s economic situation, our academic performance was not good enough,” Lamis says.
Amal dreams of becoming a Quran teacher. Isra loves mathematics and wants to teach it one day. Achieving those dreams felt impossible when the family couldn’t afford even basic meals.
READ Foundation’s food basket programme has changed everything. Each month, Lamis receives rice, flour, oil, and other staples for preparing three daily meals. With regular meals at home, her daughters arrive at school ready to learn.
“All the provided food items are needed for our daily meals,” Isra says.
Amal and Isra started attending school regularly. They focus better in class, and their grades have improved.
“This support enabled my children to improve their academic levels,” she says. “The project has reduced huge psychological pressure on our family.”
With consistent support, Amal and Isra can break the cycle of poverty and continue working toward their dreams.
