I understand that I must have paid income or capital gains tax (in the UK) equal to the tax that will be claimed by all the charities that I donate to (currently 25p for every £1 you give) in the same tax year. The tax reclaimed will be used to help fund the administration costs of the charity. I understand I must notify READ Foundation if I am no longer eligible, wish to cancel this declaration, change my name or home address or if I no longer pay sufficient income or capital gains tax. I understand that if I pay less Income Tax and / or Capital Gains Tax than the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all my donations in that tax year it is my responsibility to pay any difference.

It’s that time of year again! Students and pupils across the UK are preparing for their new academic year. There is a general excitement in the air as everyone looks forward to buying new stationery and supplies.

This year, just like last, we’re campaigning to help those children in the developing world who cannot afford to buy new school supplies. These are needy children who have nobody to buy them new school kits. Essential supplies that will support these children as they learn new knowledge and skills at school.

This year, when you’re buying school supplies for yourself, your son or daughter, consider buying one for the children who don’t have someone to support them. Make a child’s life easier by providing them with a uniform, textbooks and stationery, so there are no obstacles for them coming to school and succeeding with their education.

A backpack can change a life

A backpack full of stationery, textbooks and school uniform can have an incredible impact on an orphan child’s life. This can be the difference between them walking to school with new shoes or barefoot.

Education is the single most powerful tool in lifting people out of poverty. By helping a child to attend school you are helping to change their life forever.

Watch a short video showing the kinds of supplies we need to provide.

Hope in a backpack

4 ways a backpack can help in the fight against poverty

When children have the tools necessary to get to school, as well as what they need to engage within the classroom, then the odds are in their favour that they will successfully complete a school year.

Even one extra year of schooling can increase a child’s earning potential by 10%, which can tremendously impact that child, their family, and their community.
